Getting to Fenwick Island, Delaware

Fenwick Island is located in Sussex County, Delaware. The primary route to and through Fenwick Island is the Coastal Highway, also known as Delaware Route 1. Via the Coastal Highway, Fenwick Island is approximately 10 minutes south of Bethany Beach, and 30 minutes south of Rehoboth Beach.

Taking the highway south, Fenwick Island connects to Ocean City, Maryland in less than 20 minutes.

Distances to other important centers:

  • To/From Dover, DE: 1 hour 15 minutes, or 60 miles.
  • To/From Baltimore, MD: 2 hours 30 minutes, or 130 miles.

The easiest highways for access to Fenwick Island are Delaware Route 1 (from Dover and Philadelphia), US Highway 113 (from Baltimore), and US Highway 50 (from Salisbury).

Fenwick Island Community Living

Fenwick Island features a fantastic blend of natural beauty and urban entertainment. Directly to the north, residents enjoy Fenwick Island State Park. The long sandy beaches are perfect for swimming, surfing, sailing, fishing, or sunbathing.

Are dogs allowed on Fenwick Island Park beach? Yes! However, dogs are not allowed on the beach directly in front of the main parking area between May 1 and September 30. Also, keep a lookout for bird nesting locations, as dogs are prohibited from these areas as well.

Fenwick Island is home to a range of beach town attractions, like Viking Golf and Go-Karts, and Thunder Mountain Lagoon Waterpark. And, while Fenwick Island does not have a beachside boardwalk, the deck overlooking the putt-putt course and Go-Kart track does bear the name of "Fenwick Boardwalk", so make of that what you will.
