Bethany Beach, Delaware Community Info
Bethany Beach’s best known and best loved feature is undoubtedly the beach. The 7-mile stretch of sandy beach is iconic, and the region’s mild, sub-tropical climate means that the season it can be enjoyed in is a long one. Many enjoy swimming from May all the way to early October.
The village itself, and neighboring Fenwick Island, are delightfully quaint. The epitome of a coastal New England beach town, the village’s commercial core is centered around a two-block section of the Garfield Parkway, between Route 1 and the beach. Here residents and visitors will find a highly walkable and irresistible collection of shops, restaurants, cafes and specialty stores.
The main attraction of Bethany Beach may well be the beach, but it's got so much more to offer than that.
Bethany Beach Real Estate
The available Bethany Beach real estate is quite diverse. Quite similar to what you’d find in other small coastal communities along the Atlantic Coast, Bethany Beach offers a pleasing variety - from decidedly beachy and cozy seaside cottages to larger homes in newer and high-quality, residential developments.
Bethany Beach homes for sale are comprised of mainly single-family homes for the most part, but interested home buyers will also find a pleasing selection of low-maintenance condos & townhomes. Due to its position as a top Delaware resort town, the homes, condos and townhomes make for a fantastic investment or income property, with a large pool of potential renters that flock to the area in the high season.
The community’s architectural style takes major cues from its coastal setting. The Atlantic coastal style of the real estate in this part of Delaware takes influences from mainly Colonial and Victorian sources. Interested home buyers and investors should definitely take note. Development continues in Bethany Beach, with big developments in new and established areas.
Bethany Beach Highlights & Amenities
As we’ve mentioned already, Bethany Beach’s biggest attraction is the beach. The summertime is when things really heat up, both literally and figuratively. Not only is the beach a fantastic location for swimming and sunbathing, it’s also the setting for numerous fun community events.
There is live music on the beach’s bandstand, bonfires and even free outdoor movies. Bethany Beach is well known for its numerous free, public beaches, many of which feature seasonal lifeguards courtesy of the Bethany Beach Patrol. The community’s main beach access even hosts a small boardwalk known as the Joseph Olson Boardwalk.
Bethany Beach is bordered to the north by Delaware Seashore State Park. The incredibly popular state park boasts miles of hiking trails, scenic kayaking and great camping. There’s even two on-site restaurants - Hammerheads and the Big Chill. Interestingly, the park is also home to the Indian River Life-Saving Station, a historic building that has been restored to its original 1876 appearance.
