The eastern and southern portions of Prince George's County are quite rural, with many forests and small farms. There are also significant forested areas in the northeast at Greenbelt Park and the Patuxent Research Refuge.
Prince George's County offers a wide mix of homes and housing types, from the dense urban centers of the northwest to the expansive estates in the east and south.
Luxury homes in Prince George's County tend to display a Colonial-Federal influenced style, with the occasional French Second Empire-inspired home. Federal-style homes are typically completed in red brick, with prominent quoins, sash windows and shutters, decorative keystones, a few Palladian windows, and porticos with Classical influences.
Other common house styles are Colonial or Victorian farmhouses, with vinyl siding, wide porches, tall peaked roofs, and asymmetrical facades; and the ever-present 1950s bungalows or ranchers. These latter designs are marked by their use of red brick and occasionally vinyl siding, and relatively simple exteriors.
Prince George's County has many attractions balanced between urban and commercial conveniences, and natural and historic attractions.
