Millsboro Community Info

Millsboro is a fast growing area that gets a great deal of its charm from an outstanding location, a business-friendly attitude and rampant development. The small town also has a long, storied history and locals take pride in this heritage. Numerous historic sites litter the area within Millsboro and the surrounding area - many listed on the National Register of Historic Places - and a number of popular community get togethers to help to celebrate and remember key events from the past.

Millsboro is located right at the mouth of the Indian River, on an offshoot of the Indian River Bay. A boat launch provides residents with direct access to the waterway.

The small city is also bisected by US Route 113 that runs right through the center of town. The popular highway provides local residents and tourists fantastic access to both the resort communities on the Atlantic Coast and the larger metropolitan centers of the region.

Milsboro Real Estate

Like many of the communities in this historic and fascinating area of the Eastern United States, Millsboro real estate reflects an interesting combination of old and new. The core of the community is quite well established, so the center of the village is populated almost exclusively by single family homes, in wonderfully established neighborhoods. While some homes are newer, interested home buyers will also find a beautiful selection of wonderfully restored character homes.

The landscape surrounding the community of Millsboro has become populated by a variety of suburban neighborhoods in recent decades. The small town’s position away from larger cities like Wilmington, Philadelphia and Baltimore has made it especially appealing. Millsboro is too far away to serve as a bedroom community to these larger metros, but still close enough for the occasional day trip or business trip.

Several of these Millsboro new developments were created specifically for families and active adults. The amenities available in each specific community are tailored to those segments of the market. Millsboro more popular suburban communities include:

  • Town Center
  • Hollyville
  • Stockley
  • Riverdale

Whereas the more central neighborhoods within the city limits are almost exclusively single-family homes, the suburban developments outside the city offer more variety. Here you’ll find a wider range of options for entering the local real estate market - attached row homes, townhouses and even condos.

Millsboro Attractions & Amenities

Millsboro’s has two distinct commercial areas, and both feature a unique combination of locally owned restaurants, convenient big-box retailers and local small businesses. The first is found along Dupont Boulevard and the second, at the corner of Washington and Main. This collection of retailers has helped make the small village among the fastest growing in the state, and has also created a wonderfully walkable commercial space.

Millsboro also serves as a fantastic home base for all the natural splendor that this area of Delaware has to offer. The Atlantic coast along with its wonderful parks, beaches and resort communities are all less than 20 miles away. Popular resort communities like Bethany Beach, Lewes, and Rehoboth Beach are among the most popular hotspots.

Closer to home, Plantation Lakes Golf & Country Club is the immediate areas most popular courses. Other top highlights include Trap Pond State Park, Assawoman Wildlife Area and Redden State Forest. Within Millsboro, among the more popular park areas is Cupola Park, found right along the banks of the river. Not only does it feature beautiful views, picnic facilities and a playground, it’s also home to the largest cypress tree found anywhere in Delaware.

Of course, among the area’s most popular past times is boating and fishing, and the community's position along the Indian River makes it easy to get started. Millsboro Pond Boat ramp provides direct access to the water, while boat rental and charters are also available and easy to come by.
