Cockeysville is a community located 20 minutes north of Baltimore, in Baltimore County MD. To the north is the community of Sparks, with Worthington, Owings Mills, and Reistertown to the west. To the south is Lutherville-Timonium. 


The western boundary of Cockeysville is marked by the I-83 Highway, and the east is the Loch Raven Reservoir. The community is split almost evenly between commercial and residential areas, with the former being found in the west half, and the latter in the east. Residential streets are wide with large front and back yards, and some homes are excellently located near the water.


As of 2020, the estimated population of Cockeysville is 22,600 people, and this has remained relatively steady over the past decade. 


The major road that runs through Cockeysville is York Road (Maryland Route 45), which connects Hereford, Sparks, Cockeysville, Timonium, and Towson together, amongst other communities. Other main roads include Shawan Road the I-83 (which stretches past the Maryland-Pennsylvania border).

Homes in Cockeysville are well-spaced and unique, occupying generously sized properties. Many feature new-traditional and colonial-inspired designs, including 6-over-6 sash windows, exterior shutters, and stately facades.

Cockeysville History

The name "Cockeysville" comes from the Cockey family, who had built several important buildings (including the train station) for the town in its early days. The town history dates back all the way to 1725. Cockeysville also used to be a stop along the Northern Central Railway.


There are two buildings in Cockeysville on the National Register of Historic Places. The first is a historic schoolhouse, built in 1882. The second is a historic home named Stone Hall. Historical Society of Baltimore County is located on Van Buren Lane.

As the population of Cockeysville is just over 20,000, most residents enjoying the quaint vibe and easy access to essential shopping. There are plenty of big box stores, such as Walmart, Home Depot, Target, and Lowe's, located in the center of the town.


Cockeysville also features the Fox Hollow Golf Course and plenty of forested parks to enjoy. Adventurous nature-lovers will like the Loch Raven hiking trails and scenic outlooks, which take visitors right up to the waterfront. 


The schools in Cockeysville are highly rated, and include the following: Warren Elementary School, Cockeysville Middle School, Dulaney High School, and more. The town also is home to a public library, the System Source Computer Museum, the Historical Society of Baltimore County, a movie theater, banquet hall, and so much more.
