The small community of Hampstead is located just 40 minutes north of Baltimore’s downtown core. Highway 30 once made its way right through the center of the town until the Hampstead Bypass was constructed, diverting high traffic volume away from the center of town.
The refreshing small community is populated by friendly neighbors and an assortment of small, locally-owned businesses. It’s the type of small town that you can feel good about letting your children play outside. Hampstead has been consistently ranked among the top small towns for raising a family in Maryland - and it’s safe too; crime is almost non-existent.
The town of Hampstead’s main strip is filled with a fascinating array of historic buildings that have been thoughtfully preserved.
The town is a well-established small community, and the local Hampstead real estate market is representative of this proud history. The available properties on the market at any one time are refreshingly diverse. Interested home buyers can find plenty of older homes overflowing with a classic character as well as new construction.
A distinct colonial-style architecture is quite common throughout town, both with older homes and newer builds. These homes are very inviting, with plenty of room inside and out for entertaining.
Although there are numerous examples of older and historic properties available, Hampstead has also seen some newer development as well, mostly on the outskirts of town. As these properties are further away from the town center, they tend to be a bit bigger and situated on larger lots. There’ll be plenty of room for your growing family.
The town of Hampstead was incorporated in 1888 - originally known as the Village of Spring Garden, the community was a stage-line stop along this stretch of road. The town is surrounded by plenty of wide-open space, not to mention farm and pasturelands.
Today, Hampstead (named for the city in England) is a bright and vibrant small community, full of friendly residents who enjoy a slower pace of life. Most businesses are located along the main strip through town - Main Street. There’s also a small strip mall located on the south end of town.
