Bel Air, Maryland Community Information
Bel Air is known as the “heart of Harford” for a reason. Not only is the county seat at the geographic center of the county, it’s also the economic and cultural root of the region. Bel Air has a beautiful and historic downtown core that has also been made a designated arts and entertainment district - one of 24 official districts in Maryland.
Bel Air is located roughly 28 miles from downtown Baltimore. US Route One is located just west of the small town, providing fantastic easy access to the larger metropolis, and other communities in the region including nearby Aberdeen.
Bel Air Real Estate
As town itself is quite well established, the Bel Air real estate market offers plenty of character homes, overflowing with a intriguing colonial charm. The Federal and early colonial-style architecture is common in the older homes throughout the community, but also features in some newer construction, taking cues from a historic past.
Bel Air is a quaint, small town that has been consistently ranked among the best places to live in the United States, and it’s easy to see why. The town’s appealing neighborhoods feature gently curving streets, with the overhanging boughs of mature trees and sidewalks on both sides.
The community of Bel Air is also surrounded by numerous examples of newer suburban construction extending outwards in new developments. These homes naturally feature brand new upgrades with all modern conveniences and contemporary design styles. These areas have seen substantial growth in the past several decades.
Newer homes in Bel Air also typically begin at higher price points. While there aren't ample luxury listings on the Bel Air real estate market, many of the largest homes fall just under that price point. Bel Air, then, is a great alternative to the big city Baltimore lifestyle, as its larger homes on sizable lots are more competitively priced. Multiple-car garages, fireplaces, backyard pools, and extra entertaining spaces are common features of Bel Air luxury properties.
