Havre de Grace is a small town located in Harford County, Maryland. The town is a short distance northeast of Aberdeen, situated at the mouth of the Susquehanna River. 

 

The town has an abundance of waterfront properties and homes for sale in friendly, tree-lined neighborhoods.

Havre de Grace has many notable landmarks, including the Concord Point Lighthouse.  

 

The I-95 and U.S. Route 40 run through the middle of Havre de Grace, which is roughly 45 minutes from downtown Baltimore and less than two hours away from Washington, D.C., so residents are always close to metropolitan areas while taking advantage of life in a quiet, suburban area.

 

Friends-Concord Point Lighthouse looks out over the Susquehanna River and beyond. This historic lighthouse is a staple of the area and is situated around numerous piers, boardwalks and parks.

Havre de Grace History

While history of the area dates back to the early-1600s, Havre de Grace was incorporated in the year 1785. It was named by General Lafayette, but before this, the area was known as "Harmer's Town." Havre de Grace was initially known for its agriculture and aquaculture industry, specifically fruit and oysters.


The city was an important site during the War of 1812, as well as a stop on the Underground Railroad. Havre de Grace was also in contention to be named the official U.S. state capital, however it ultimately lost.
