Harford County is a county in the state of Maryland. Located in the northeast portion of the state, it borders the Susquehanna River, Chesapeake Bay, and Pennsylvania to the north. Harford County is surrounded by Cecil County (to the east) and Baltimore County (south and west). 


There is an abundance of land for sale and waterfront properties in Harford County. Communities in Harford County include Bel Air, Belcamp, Aberdeen, Havre de Grace, Edgewood, and Jarrettsville. The county seat is Bel Air. 


As of 2021, the population of Harford County is just under 263,000.


All three of Harford County's main highways lead into Baltimore. They are, from north to south, U.S. Route 1, the I-95, and U.S. Route 40. Havre de Grace, which was once in consideration to be the nation's capital, is connected to Baltimore City by the I-95. It's about a 45-minute drive to the downtown core.

Due to its proximity to Amtrak and Aberdeen Proving Ground stations, Aberdeen, one of Harford County’s fastest-growing communities, is popular with first-time home-buyers and commuters. The largest town in the county is Bel Air, which is packed with charming boutiques, Victorian style houses, and numerous parks.


Real estate in Harford County ranges from large farmhouses to luxury colonial estates... and even quaint, traditional townhomes! There's a lot of choice at every budget, in every community. Edgewood and Havre De Grace are two areas where there are quite a few new developments, however these are mainly townhomes for the former. 


There are are wide selection of luxury homes in Harford County, many of which are located on the west side of the county, close to Baltimore. Luxury homes for sale in this county are built in a multitude of styles, from Colonial to Farmhouse, but come equipped with multiple bedrooms and bathrooms, and ample square footage. 

Harford County History

The area of Harford County, Maryland was the home to Iroquois-speaking tribes, specifically the Massawomecks and Susquehannocks. European settlers arrived as early as 1608, but Harford County wasn't officially founded until 1774, named so after Henry Harford, the 5th and final proprietor of Maryland. 


While the county seat is Bel Air (founded 1780), Havre de Grace was once considered to be country's capital. However, it eventually lost out to Washington, D.C.

Harford County is brimming with sprawling farms, orchards, wineries, and outdoor markets. It’s even home to a 5-star Zagat rated golf course, the Bulle Rock Golf Course.


Harford County residents enjoy all the outdoor recreation opportunities that the county provides, such as hiking at Rocks State Park or visiting the historic sites at Susquehanna State Park. There are numerous opportunities for camping, boating, golf, and so much more. The county also hosts both adult and youth programs, such as camps, and there are many recreation and community centers located all throughout the region.


Other highlights include the Ladew Topiary Gardens, located outside of Monkton, Kilgore Falls, Friends-Concord Point Lighthouse, and Steppingstone Farm Museum (in Susquehanna State Park). For visitors or residents who love exploring the area, Harford County has several themed trails that one can visit, including wineries and breweries, art murals, and barn quilts. 


Its easy access to the I-95 corridor and its family-oriented communities afford Harford County residents a small-town lifestyle with big-city amenities. Central Harford County is roughly 35 miles (or 45 minutes) from downtown Baltimore
