Berlin, MD History

Berlin, Maryland has a long history. First home to Indigenous populations, Berlin later became the site of a plantation, and would remain so for the next hundred years. Development into a village began in the late 1700s, however Berlin would not be officially incorporated as a town until the year 1868.


Many efforts have been taken to preserve the historic buildings within the town. There are forty-seven listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Berlin, Maryland is home to its own historic downtown area, centered around Main Street.
